Hendry delighted by the Inspector's decision to reject Aldi's appeal

Wealden MP Charles Hendry is delighted by the inspector's decision to reject Aldi's Appeal in Hailsham.

Charles Hendry said: "I am delighted by the Inspector's decision to reject Aldi's appeal, which is excellent news for the whole town of Hailsham and the surrounding rural economy.

"I am especially pleased by the reasons for his decision. He has taken full account of the impact the Aldi development would have on Hailsham Cattle Market and he has, rightly, decided that this is the most important issue at stake. It is very encouraging that the interests of the wider Hailsham economy have been given greater importance than the interests of one developer.

"The case for keeping the Cattle Market in Hailsham has been made strongly by the local community, the NFU and by many local MPs. The priority now must be to secure the future of the Market, either on its existing site or a site nearby which is at least as acceptable to the local farming community.

"This is an excellent outcome for Hailsham after years of uncertainty."
